It’s not always easy tot review something like Striider, the Dutch one man project. The military ambient with martial hymns is nevertheless something that creates an atmosphere which brings forth the fear, despair and heroism often to be found during times of war. To look the enemy in the eye, knowing that he has perhaps a brother, a mother or a child and then shoot him should be something no one has to endure in its life. But one the other hand, war brings people closer together and one should always defend their home and native ground. Without war, there’s no peace.
Having that said, Striider brings with “Heimweh” the soundtrack for the horrific scenery of war. The influences are drawn from both world wars the world has know up to date and gives a musical reflection of that era. Yes, it was war but there was also beauty, friendship and people who brought out the best in themselves although that could mean that someone was extremely good in killing others. “Heimweh” has the listener more to offer than just ambient music, it’s an experience for those interested in war due to the samples which are used, it’s an experience for those interested in ambient due to the solid and relaxing sounds, it’s an experience for those interested in music that probably never will be heard by mainstream people as the cd is limited to 100 pieces. “Heimweh” is an excellent piece of work from this young artist. Check out Striider’s Facebook page as he is already working on new stuff.
